Transmogrifying your demon: Part 3 - Burning Crusade

I've been looking at the redesigned Glyph of Felguard coming in Mists of Pandaria and some of the weapons I'll personally be chasing down for my own use.

To catch up, check the links below:
Yes, I know this isn't a BC weapon.
Part 1: The Basics
Part 2: Classic WoW

While Vanilla WoW had a lot of fairly bland gear design (even a lot of Molten Core drops were recolors of leveling gear), things took a turn for the exotic when we packed our bags and ventured into Outland. Rather than every quest reward weapon being a variation of "long silver pointy stick", we began to see eye colorful and sometimes eye twisting designs like the Honed Voidaxe. This makes for some interesting choices when deciding what your Felguard or Wrathguard should be using to hit things in the face (or ankle, in the case of raid bosses). Besides, what place is more fitting to provide you with a demonic weapon than Outland?

Anyway, let's jump in.

The Blade of Harbingers - At a modest price of 780 Justice Points from vendors in Quel'danas and Shattrath, it's one of the most accessible options out there. If nothing else, it's certainly unique. My only issue is that it's a bit on the small side and may not look quite as awesome as some other weapons. My experience with this so far is that bigger is most certainly better.
Hellreaver - Now, an observant person would notice that this is the same weapon that your Wrathguard carries by default. However, there's no reason why you can't collect it for your Felguard. A staple of Baby DK's since they first crawled out of Acherus, it's a very large, very distinct and iconic weapon.
Note: There are currently three versions of this weapon in the MOP game files. The original 2H Polearm as well as MH and OH Swords. It's currently unclear what the newly added swords mean, but it may be prudent to farm this while it's still available on the off-chance that it's going away. The beta login server has been down for some time so I haven't been able to confirm anything.

Shaarde the Greater - The purple and pink colorization is a perfect example of the almost flamboyant weapon design of Burning Crusade. If my experience is any indicator (it never is), this is also a rarely used source item for transmogrification. If you're looking for something that not everyone and their brother has, then you may consider heading to normal mode Mana Tombs and snatching it up.

Gorehowl - The weapon of Grom Hellscream, father of the current warchief as well as the original Horde's demise (and deliverer), few weapons in the game are as important to lore as this one without having orange text. How it ended up in the hands of an Eredar lord at the top of Karazhan, I haven't the slightest clue, but you can relieve him of it pretty easily without outside help.

Apolyon, the Soul-Render - We already drain, shatter and store souls. Why not rend them as well? Grab some friends and head into Sunwell if this is something you'd like to have. If you don't want to deal with drop rates and /roll competition, you can also purchase it's PvP twin for a laughable 350 honor. The two are almost completely identical.

Gladiator's Decapitator - Most people will recognize this as Devastation, the temporary Legendary that is used during the Kael'thas Sunstrider encounter in Tempest Keep. Purchase it for 1,500 Honor or grab the green version (which I prefer) from questing in Shadowmoon Valley. The Tempest Keep drop has a limited duration, but makes a nice trial item if you don't have the points.

Vengeful Gladiator's Greatsword - While I prefer the color scheme of it's PvE cousin, the removal of Zul'aman as a raid instance has made the Vengeful Greatsword the only way to obtain this particular model of weapon. In either case, it's another one of those massive weapons that just begs to be used.

Honorable Mention:

Ethereum Nexus Reaver - A BoE drop from a camped and farmed world boss, you're far more likely to see this on the AH for an obnoxious amount than you are to come across your own. It's beautiful but prohibitively expensive.

Cataclysm's Edge - Drops off of Archimonde in the Battle of Mount Hyjal. It's not my favorite 2H sword model, but it's eye catching and unique.

Singing Crystal Axe - Another expensive BoE, but far more difficult (unreasonably so) to farm than the Nexus Reaver. Watch the AH, but be prepared to pay a hefty price as it's listed for 10,000 gold on my server right now. Fortunately, target weapons for this glyph do not need to be soulbound so there's no risk of buyer's remorse.

Next time, we head to Northrend to collect some of my favorites.

  1. So, what's the sword in the first pic with the Felguard? That green sword would go great on my Wrathguard and with my transmog, but you don't name it in your list.

    1. I'm fairly certain that it's a Cataclysm PvP weapon. Cataclysmic Gladiator, maybe?

If I remember right, that shot was taken at a point in the Beta when the new gear was available for purchase, but they hadn't implemented new models yet and were recycling Cata gear as placeholders. It was two years ago though, so I may be off base a little.
